How to Operate the Retro Pixel IPS Game Boy Color Backlit Screen

Your Game Boy Color is equipped with a beautiful, modern IPS display! Here’s how to use all its built-in features and get the most out of your display.

Open On-Screen Display (OSD)   

  1. Hold down the Start & Select button for 2 seconds to pull up the OSD menu.
  2. To cycle through the OSD menu, press the Start or Select button for 2 seconds.
  3. To adjust the value for each menu option short press the Start or Select buttons to increase/ decrease.

Brightness Control (BRT)

Your IPS screen offers 8 levels of adjustable brightness.

Tip: Higher brightness will use more battery power — medium levels balance clarity and battery life best.

Display Modes (DSP)

The IPS screen offers multiple rendering modes that change how pixels appear.

Pixel Mode – replicates the original Game Boy Color’s pixel grid for a true retro feel

Standard Mode – sharp and clear image, no pixel grid

Pixel Mode – Pixel intensity 1

Pixel Mode – Pixel intensity 2

Pixel Mode – Pixel intensity 3

Frame Option (FRM)

Adds or removes a subtle visual frame around the display.

Logo Game Boy Color (LGC)

Change the Game Boy Color logo color with many preset options.

R G B

Change the individual RGB values for the Game Boy Color logo to dial in the exact color you want to display.

Screen Position (N)

Change position of the LCD screen display in the vertical direction

YST

Change position of the LCD screen display in the horizontal direction

P
